Abstract
e-SY.info is the working name of a major e-learning project set in one of the most economically deprived areas of England. UK Government and European funds have been made available to increase the levels of ICT skills and qualifications in the population and so contribute to the economic regeneration of the region. This paper reports on an evaluation of the reactions of secondary school students to intensive 3-day on-line courses leading to the ECDL. The main findings are that, although the qualification was originally designed for adults, the great majority of school-students responded remarkably positively over the three days and achieved high pass rates in the various assessments. The factors contributing to this success are considered and recommendations made for future funding.
