Abstract
A recently completed research programme at Sheffield Hallam University’s Centre for Infrastructure Management (CIM), with technical support from Mott MacDonald and C-Probe Systems, has paved the way for a combined strengthening and corrosioncontrol system based on carbon fibre with both conventional epoxy and a novel inorganic adhesive based on geopolymer. In the research carried out at CIM, carbonfibre-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) have been used to provide both structural strengthening and cathodic protection to reinforced concrete elements suffering from corrosion-related damage.
