This discussion on labour turnover in the hospitality industry takes a wider perspective, including the individual's personal priorities, social relationships and any wider structural constraints, such as family or education. These factors combine to produce a certain orientation, or attitude, towards work. The discussion is based on the findings of 24 formal interviews with hospitality employees in the UK. Four categories of hospitality employees according to their attitudes towards work are described: the instrumental employee; the solidaristic employee; the professionally orientated employee; and the craft-orientated employee.
