Me and my hair

BALLIN, Deborah (2009). Me and my hair. [Video] [Video]

Abstract

"ME AND MY HAIR' is a documentary portrait of five women and girls aged from seven to seventy. It tells stories of their lives through all the haircuts they have had.

It is an investigation into femininity and identity and examines the importance of ritual and performance in the construction of self. It asks questions about the way the documentary form can be used to draw attention to 'ordinary' events and allow us to re-examine and re-appraise them.

"ME AND MY HAIR" was funded by Screen Yorkshire through funds from the National Lottery.

Selected for screening at Sheffield International Doc Fest Videoteque 2009
