Abstract
Sepsis is a common medical emergency with a high risk of mortality. This article will examine the diagnosis and management of sepsis in adult patients from a nurse prescribing perspective. It will focus on two key interventions: prescribing of antibiotics and intravenous fluids. Prompt recognition and management can dramatically improve survival in patients with severe sepsis, and nurse prescribers have an important role to play in ensuring patients receive life-saving antibiotics.
