REEVE, Hester (2012). Virtuouso (dismembered Sonata for Hannah Arendt). [Performance] [Performance]
This work was shown as part of 'The Live Notation Unit' which Hester Reeve curated at Arnolfini July 2012.
This work promoted the value of construing the human being as an instrument (as in musical) which via creative labour can embody a call to virtue (qua Foucauldian virtue ethics) and thus sounds a primal dimension of the political voice; That live art facilitates a temporary symbolic agent whose specific composition of action is akin to the live notation of an idea that cannot survive in rhetoric and seeks the attention of other bodies in order to fully exist. The sense of sound issuing from the body during these actions becomes as significant as the visual sense and this marks a new turn in my practice.
