KIVLAND, Sharon (2012). Jaunes. [Show/Exhibition] [Show/Exhibition]
This group exhibition brings together established and emerging artists, who are showing work on the theme of yellow, in a play of words.
Kivland exhibited four drawings in the series entitled 'Embrassez-moi'. This is a continuing series, subject to mood and whim. An eighteenth-century engraving (by whom? It is a type, one might say, and could be by Boucher). A man and woman embrace and Kivland copies the encounter, in various pencils. These are collected for their colours: rose madder, yellow ochre, mars violet, smoke blue, lemon cadmium, crag green, manganese violet, and are used once only. She does not know if the sensuality (now rather clichéd) of the original remains in her clumsy yet heartfelt renditions. She tries her best, without being too careful or exact – the drawings are made almost in passing and usually one after the other.
