DENEDO, Mercy, BROOKFIELD, Kathryn, EJIOGU, Amanze, EJIOGU, Chibuzo, HENDERSON, Kelly and RILEY, Liz (2026). Gambling Harms, Domestic Abuse and Housing Podcasts. [Video] [Video]
Abstract
This project explores the links between gambling harms (GHs) and domestic abuse (DA). Explores the views of women with lived experience of gambling-related DA and DA-related gambling, alongside insights from professionals across housing, GHs services, and DA support services. It highlights how gambling can drive economic abuse, coercive control, debt, housing instability, & homelessness.
The study shows that these harms often remain under-recognised within frontline services, meaning many victim-survivors are only identified at crisis point.
Alongside the report “Gambling Harms and Domestic Abuse: A Focus on Women and Their Housing”, the project also produced a practical resource for housing professionals and a series of five podcasts to support learning across sectors.
This independent research was funded by a regulatory settlement approved by the Gambling Commission.
Watch to learn more about the findings and why stronger cross-sector responses are needed.
