Abstract
Muslim student nurses who wear the hijab on clinical placements face challenges because of the visibility of their faith, as well as due to unclear clinical and
infection control guidance. A university conducted a mixed-methods study into
students’ experiences of this, as well as their views on the option of a uniform hijab. As a result of their responses, the university designed and piloted a uniform hijab; this received mostly positive feedback, although some students preferred to continue
wearing their own hijab. The uniform hijab is now available as an option for students who wish to wear it.
