Abstract
In a space where sculpture, image and sound coalesce, Base Notes and Place Holders provides a platform for interdisciplinary engagement and dialogue, material thinking, site-sensitive propositions and interventions. This group exhibition brings together speculative proposals from international artists, each prototype art work offers a point of connection, while collectively they speak to an unknowable future and ask; how do we hold? This question is followed by it’s quieter counterpoint; what can be dropped? Featured artists: Renata Casiano Alvarez & Kes Efstathiou, Maiken Bent, Sunah Choi, Antonia Low, TC McCormack, Outgoing, Kirsty Russell, Amba Sayal-Bennett, Tommy Støckel, Eva Taulois, Jonathan Trayte, Claudia Wieser and Keith Wilson. New speculative propositions by this collection of invited artists include: sculpture, maquettes, drawings, print, embroidery, animation and live sound. Developed between TC McCormack and Tommy Støckel, Base Notes & Place Holders is an evolving curatorial-led research project. Programmed by Sheffield Hallam University. Part of a series of commissions for No Bounds Festival entitled Entanglement, Commons and Cultural Mycelium from curator and producer Amy Carter Gordon & associate producer Lauren McConnell
