Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the literature on scepticism towards corporate social responsibility (CSR). It begins by defining CSR scepticism and outlining how the concept has been measured in extant studies, identifying that there is limited consensus in the dimensionality and measurement of the concept. An overview of key findings in this field is then provided, focussing on three key areas that emerge from the literature: causes of scepticism; effect of the communication source; and how CSR scepticism might be reduced. The chapter closes with opportunities for future studies to add further insight and clarity to this research field.
