DAVIDS, K, CHOW, J-Y and SHUTTLEWORTH, R (2005). A constraints-based framework for nonlinear pedagogy in physical education. Journal of Physical Education New Zealand, 38 (1), 17-29. [Article]
Abstract
Factors which impact on the individual's capacity to acquire skills and to enjoy the psycho-social and physiological benefits of participation in sport and exercise are of crucial importance at this time, given worldwide concerns over decreasing physical activity rates and the concomitant effects on health in affluent populations and post-industrial societies. The acquisition of perceptual-motor skills across the lifespan remains an important goal for individuals for a variety of reasons related to personal development, health and economic benefits. Davids et al introduce the concept of a nonlinear pedagogy for physical educators, which is founded on a constraints-based theoretical framework for motor learning.
