BEECH, Amanda, JOSEPH-LESTER, Jaspar and POOLE, Matthew, eds. (2008). Episode : pleasure and persuasion in lens based media. London, Artwords. [Edited Book]
Abstract
This is the first collection of essays edited by the research group Curating Video. The publication brings together an international field of researchers from cultural studies, visual art, psychoanalysis and political philosophy to explore new contexts and issues that are crucial to understanding the experience and meaning of images. Acknowledging the historical problem of critical theories that have idealised as well as demonised media culture, these essays interrogate the critical status of lens based media, taking up the problems and difficulties attached to the politics of the image and its contemporary condition. The publication was launched alongside a one-day conference at Tate Britain of the same title where each editor convened a panel with contributing authors from the book.
