Abstract
Local Colour maps the changing colour of the high street across three months, and attempts to analyse the relationship between retail, desire and local identity. Once a month Shaw walked the entire length of the high street and photographed every different women's garment in every shop window. This was repeated in June, July and August. Then the images were printed and cut into single tiles. These tiles acted as samples, to be added to colour-sample tables- akin to the colour-prediction documents used at international fashion prediction conferences. The tables were reproduced and, together with an essay by Shaw, formed into small run (500) prints. These were distributed by the smaller independent fashion retailers in Preston.
