Abstract
The internal. – introspective, personal in meaning and space: ‘Gentle Rain of Mercy’ 2016. St Mary Church, Grand St, New York City. Collaboration with Fr. Andrew O’Connor. 5m Hanging sculpture consisting of 1776 photo-etched stainless steel leaves. More intimate in its scale and positioned in the East Knave, this piece offers a more personal space for religious contemplation. Multiple, delicate, jewel-like leaves whose details of The Beatitudes in hand script cannot be read at distance offers the viewer the chance of a quieter interaction. 1776 leaves signified a celebration of the year of American independence whilst the naming of the piece was to remember the year in which we marked 400 years since Shakespeare's death.
