Abstract

This chapter explores the derivation, background and current inflections on Knowledge Exchange(KE)and outlines the key factors affecting the adoption of KE by the arts, humanities and social sciences in the current climate of a knowledge driven society. In the context of an emergent rise in Knowledge Transfer practices in the modern university this paper attempts to uncover some of the background on how the KE agenda was arrived at and how some have struggled to define and adopt it as a normative practice in scholarly life. We suggest that the modern university has perhaps not fully embraced the place of the arts and social sciences in that context, and in an attempt to better equip both academics and their institution for KE, we present a range of possible methodologies and recommendations that may add weight to the argument.
