Abstract
The chapters in this volume are representative of recent research efforts and advances in the area of Advanced Computing Applications, Databases and Networks, covering both theoretical and application issues.
Multi-hop wireless mobile Ad Hoc network is an infrastructure-less type of network. Its ease in
employment anywhere and at anytime makes it popular for general communication even for military
purpose. In multi hop wireless ad hoc networks each node is capable of sending, receiving and routing
packets via the intermediate nodes. Introducing RTS/CTS control packets reduces collision and enhances
the utilization of channel, but it is not sufficient in supporting Quality of Service (QoS) for real time
data flows. Maintaining modularity at each layer of a layered network protocol hides the knowledge of
happening with respect to the network resources like bandwidth, delay, jitter etc across the layers. In
order to optimize the QoS in the resource constraint wireless Ad Hoc networks where high mobility is
taken into account, cross layered protocols becomes mandatory in such network generation. Cross layer
protocols co-operate and co-ordinate among the different layers in order to optimize the network resource
utilization. Why and how to interact among the layers has been a hot cake in wireless ad hoc networks.
