Abstract: | Precious Paper explored how exhibition and installation design could be used to encourage social change, and more specifically how installation design could successfully communicate the subject of paper waste through a series of considered design strategies. The project aimed to discover whether the impact of the experience and the physical environment alone could essentially change the behaviour of its visitors, and ultimately encourage them change the way they value and perceive paper, making them shift their conscience in their use and disposal of paper. The installation was made entirely from waste paper, both junk mail and office waste collected over a two-month period. The space is enveloped in suspended paper chains, each made from separate Mobius strips, a subtle reference to the concept of a circular economy, strengthening the message of the life cycle of paper. |
