Abstract

Surface plasmon resonance experiments were successfully employed to investigate the mechanisms of interaction of spun thin films of polyphenylsulfide polymer with ozone at ppb levels. Oxidation of the polymer by ozone exposure results in an irreversible increase in the index of refraction of the polymer. The detection sensitivity is enhanced with the improved surface coverage of the film.
