The aim of this chapter is to discuss some of the contested areas around ageing and challenge the dominance of perspectives that have been constructed as ‘truths’. Based on Fraser’s (2003) conceptualization of recognition and distribution, this chapter will discuss socio-economic and health-related disparities as influenced by cultural constructions of later life and the promise of community-based models of gerontological occupational practice to address them.
