Abstract
This book chapter - part of a new publication on Principles of Responsible Management in support of the UN Global Compact - theorises the challenges to the social entrerpeneur of creating a social economy. By examining the different starting points for social enterprise (in the public, private and third sectors), the skills and orientations needed to make the transition to a social economy are sketched out. The chapter concludes that the management skills needed for social economy development will vary according to sectoral affiliation and the evisioned pathway of each social entrepreneur.
