Abstract
Climatic simulation studies have indicated that it is possible to generate frost damage in conditions which would not be considered unduly severe. Brick and mortar both play a part in the overall performance of brickwork. The results gained from testing one brick with a particular mortar may be very different from those obtained using the same bricks with a different specification of mortar in one specific climatic regime. Insulation will also affect the performance of the brickwork, in some cases, in a manner which could be considered deleterious to the external skin performance.
