Shock of September 11 and the Mystery of the Other

The Shock of September 11th and the Mystery of the Other' was an exhibition of 30 international artists organized and selected by Rebecca Horn for Haus am Lützowplatz, Berlin (2002). The exhibition aimed to provide a visual archive of responses by artists to the events of September 11, 2001; each of the invited artists was asked to produce a single image.

Sneddon’s contribution pursued his concern with the experience of dislocation as a negative marker establishing one’s relationship to place. Using a well-known Toronto tourist destination, Sneddon’s photograph depicted a number of messages scored or written onto a boardwalk barrier by strangers who found themselves stranded in Canada during the period of the attack on New York.
