Dr. Alison Gwilt is a fashion design academic and researcher exploring sustainable solutions and strategies for fashion and textile design practice.  Alison is interested in challenging the current fashion design paradigm by focusing on the use of positive/sustainable design interventions within the fashion design process.
 
Alison has a degree in fashion and textiles from Central St Martins College of Art in London, and a PhD from RMIT University, Melbourne. Her career in academia includes managing courses and lecturing in fashion and textiles design in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. Alison has presented papers at international conferences and contributed to many international publications and press. As a curator and practitioner, she has been involved in a number of exhibitions and has received competitive funding from organizations such as the Australian NSW State Government’s Environmental Trust. Alison is the editor of the book, “Shaping Sustainable Fashion” (with Timo Rissanen) published by Earthscan in 2011, and is currently writing a sustainable fashion book for AVA to be released in September 2013.
 
Alison is a Reader in the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University, UK.
