Abstract
Willkommen. Bienvenue. Welcom. C’mon In.’ is on the front door of the East Side Projects gallery in Birmingham, and as a result is in constant use. The aesthetics of the work is influenced by the Dazzle camouflage techniques of early twentieth century. The Dazzle project had many versions ranging from office drawers to door handles. They are all in public or private collections. They are fabricated through an involved style or version of marquetry, developed for the work. The graphic style references Dazzle camouflage.
This work progressed through further interventions at Site Gallery (filing cabinets), Associates Gallery, (door knocker, floor board and various) for private collectors including the founder of Frieze, Michael Slotover (door knocker) and in non-art public spaces (wagon wheels installed within a Hummer vehicle).
