Abstract
'Glasgow Kiss' Mood Video was created as part of the 360 Narratives Writer's Residency (19-25 March 2012) funded by Creative Scotland, an ambitious and innovative opportunity for narrative creators to explore, collaborate and share practice across forms and to develop story worlds that can be expressed across a variety of media.
'Glasgow Kiss' was created as the first stage of an ongoing investigation into ways of using performance, photography, music and sound composition as an integral part of the screen writing process from the beginning. Locations, light, atmosphere, looks and gestures between characters, sounds and music are shaping the story as part a fluid process allowing for spontaneity and experimentation with the form. I am continuing my exploration of genre cross over from past films like 'Point Annihilation', to create space for reflection on the fast changing multi ethnic nature of Glasgow's underbelly with its conflicting identities, fears and desires. Using the neon glow, a shallow depth of field, the long lens approach and use of reflective surfaces, I have explored ways of creating a strange heightened atmosphere somewhere between dream and reality. This visual atmosphere reflects the mood of the characters, unsure of their identity, drifting through the city like strangers in a strange land. In Glasgow Kiss, we will have the space to explore the unique look, sound, characters, fascination and moral complexity of Glasgow’s underbelly to reflect a mirror back on our fast changing times where the future is hard to predict.
