Abstract
'The Animal Gaze: The Videos', Sheffield Institute of the Arts Gallery, Sheffield.
18/2/11-20/3/11
A group show addressing the relationship between animals and humans using film and video. The exhibition builds upon and recontextualises the previous Animal Gaze exhibitions. This exhibition examines new ways in which animals appear in contemporary art and the ethics and aesthetics to which such practice may be subject. The Animal Gaze includes video works by artists working in the UK and internationally. They visualise humans’ real and imaginary encounters with other species, and portray animals that are domestic and wild, working and at rest, alone and huddled together.
