Thinly veiled: commissioned for the entrance to ACT II, Grand Opera House, Belfast

WESTERMAN, Julie (2006). Thinly veiled: commissioned for the entrance to ACT II, Grand Opera House, Belfast. [Artefact] [Artefact]

Abstract

Thinly Veiled is one of several of commissions by Westerman based on research into the interface between art and design, where computer animation programs are translated into a physical output using industrial design processes, including rapid prototyping, CNC routing and laser-cutting.

Thinly Veiled – sited at Act II, the new extension for the Belfast Grand Opera House -- is a copper-etched representation of a virtual curtain depicted in the transition from open to closed as it spans the architrave and doors of the new studio theatre. It was produced by engraving a computer-generated wire frame design onto the theatre’s soundproof doors
