REEVE, Hester (2008). Weighting for the Return of the Image I, II & III. [Show/Exhibition] [Show/Exhibition]
These drawings are part of an ongoing body of drawing works which incorporate pencil shavings. My interest in a single circle formed by shaving a pencil from blunt to sharp is to have it stand as an ‘infrathin’ between ontological aspects of drawing per se and concrete material mark making. In the Weighting’ series I surround the shaving-stoma with tiny ornate pattern making, a methodology by which I can inhabit a creative, time based private activity. The results deliberately speak of obsession and ritual, a biding of time as if counting down the nearness of the figurative image returning to contemporary art practice.
The drawings are c. 80cm x 58 cm and the detail is so tiny that photographic documentation does not do them justice.
