Abstract
This commentary advances the concept of denied agency to examine how certain actors' perspectives, aspirations and interpretations remain marginal or unheard in local and regional development processes. It develops a typology of denied agency and highlights the importance of interpretive and emotional dimensions in shaping how individuals engage with regional change. The commentary also outlines methodological approaches for identifying denied agency and calls for a more inclusive and interpretive perspective in economic geography.
