Abstract

Chapter 25: Writing Norah’s Story, discusses Norah’s imagined responses to my interpretation of her wartime affair with Danny and its impact on her life, and the dissonance between her understanding of her life and my historian/life-writer’s analysis. I argue for transparency in historical research, including an exploration of why we are drawn to certain storylines and themes; how, as Maria Tambouko suggests, we feel the vibration of an archival fragment in our hand.
