Abstract
This project provided artists with a unique opportunity to consider the relationship between the visual, textual and spoken aspects of contemporary art practice. The project builds directly upon and expands Transmission: Speaking & Listening. Invited artists were asked to produce a limited print or multiple while responding to the theme of the Transmission series in which they participated. Sneddon functioned as curator, collaborator and project
manager to facilitate the production of each work.
The portfolios use print and multiples to explore another dimension of dialogue within contemporary art practice and to enable new imagery and approaches to printmaking to emerge. The exhibitions of the portfolio provided a platform for emerging, mid-career and well-established artists to exhibit together. As many of the artists had never produced prints or multiples, the portfolio provided them with a unique opportunity to consider their own practice and aesthetic in terms of an unfamiliar discipline
and medium.
Two portfolio editions were exhibited at three international venues in London and Berlin. The exhibition of the portfolio alongside the Transmission; Speaking and Listening series of publications was intended to enable a dialogue between artefact, text and the framing of contemporary art through language.
The portfolios are considered to be a significant record of this dialogue, as evidenced by the purchase of Portfolio 2 by the Contemporary Art Society in 2007.
