Abstract
Invited submission for the exhibition and subsequent publication. Exhibition of the work of sculptor Armel-Beaufils (1882-1952). Saint-Briac-sur-Mer July-Sept 2017 Many of the works are small figures, sculptures or maquettes, of women observed from life. Sharon Kivland invited women artists to look at and correspond with a work, to propose a reading or response, from one regard to another. Movement and Mass tension and Repose The sculpture of the young woman, who seems little more than a girl, is a complex rhythm of conflicting dynamics. In order to uncover the secrets of the sculpture I draw her, coping her, making my own marquettes. Each investigation uncovers the subtle rhythms and curious decisions made by Beaufils. The whole is a balance of passive and active lines, of stillness and tension from the improbable weight of the net to the lightness of her wind blown hair.
