Since publication by Justice of the Peace of "Advocacy for the Unpopular : The Barristers' Cab-rank rule in England and Wales - Past, Present and Future". ( June 20 and 27, Vol. 162 numbers 25 and 26) events have occurred having a bearing on the cab-rank rule which are considered in this article. They include the controversy surrounding the Chairman of the Committee on Standards on Public Life; publication by the Lord Chancellor's Department of a consultation paper on reform of rights of audience in court and further discussion by the Bar of conditional, no win no fee, cases.
