Sollemne Enim est Bibliotheca. (Ceremony for the Library)

As part of on-going research to take photographic documentation of a live art action and use this to create a new work that makes accessible the original action's concerns, 'Sollemne Enim est Bibliotheca' used images from my 2015 action "Book I am and Body is just another word for the Book" at Senate House Library as a starting point for a new work. Reflecting my interest in books and devotional activity in relationship to abstract thought, I have chosen to present the documentation of the event as a hand painted manuscript. I took inspiration from the medieval books of hours where the incorporation of lavish and often playful detail facilitated devotional prayer in the owner of the book.
