KIVLAND, Sharon (2016). Singing Girls. [Show/Exhibition] [Show/Exhibition]
Abstract
An expanded conversation and reading between Jamie Crewe and the artist and writer Sharon Kivland, as part of Jamie Crewe's exhibition 'But what was so awful was a girl who was singing', Transmission gallery, Glasgow. The exhibition addressed transfemininity, revolt, conflicted eroticism and student radicalisation through video, anecdotal text, a sculpture and spatial elements. Kivland read a number of short texts derived from Jean Genet's play Le Balcon, re-ordered/rewritten according to sartorial codes of sex/gender identity, in response to Crewe's film, followed by a conversation.
