Abstract

This paper presents a review of various optical storage area network (SAN) related technologies. It reviews recent developments in SAN technologies. It also reviews the recent developments in metro wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. The paper proposes metro WDM networks technologies for storage area networking. It presents analysis and simulation results of a proposed architecture of SANs based on metro WDM technologies. Throughput, delay and packet dropping probability results are presented under Poisson and self-similar traffic.
