Abstract

We are a group of three painters. Gary Simmonds from Sheffield Hallam University, abstract painter and academic, Vicky Putler and Theo Sykes – from Thorody a textile company, who are also both abstract painters. We have a shared interest in exploring the space between geometric abstraction, pattern and print. We are interested in asking the question of where boundaries of between disciplines and production blur and bump into each other and to see what this in-between space might be.

As a means to explore this space, we recently had the opportunity to set up a visual dialogue between our work at ‘the artists flea-market’ in Brockley, South-East London. Our event, took on the mode of an exhibition, market stall, and interchangeable conversation of works on paper, print and door panels, that started a light hearted conversation between our works. The work is resolutely analogue in it’s approach, embracing formalism, avant-garde jazz and other abstract notions.
