Editions #2

LEE, Joanne (2015). Editions #2. [Show/Exhibition] [Show/Exhibition]

Abstract
This selection of designers/makers/photographers/writers was put together to examine the intrinsic value within limited edition productions. Where is value is created and at what point mass reproduction would dissipate that value? If an image is hand screen printed in an edition of 10 and then litho printed in an edition of 100,000, is value only attributed to the production, the care taken, quality of materials and the printer’s skill? A single photograph that takes hours of setting up, or even days, may then be reproduced in advertising where it is then worthless as an object but priceless as a vital part of an effective campaign. How do we create value? Is it down to market forces or is the relationship to limited edition pieces a far more emotional experience? And how does ownership of rare or valuable items change our lives or make us happier? Exhibition Curated by Pam Bowman and Matt Edgar Graphic Design, Sheffield Institute of Arts at Sheffield Hallam University With Joanne Lee, Theo Simpson, India Hobson, Dust Collective.
