Creators:GENT, Susannah and MUSSELWHITE, Fay
Abstract:Goat Boy and other Journeys: This video is intended as a stand alone single screen film which developed from the Goat Boy and Other Journey's series of work made in collaboration with Poet Fay Musselwhite. This work has developed from a chain process originating with work created through the Bank Street Arts Residency 2010. The original installation work is on this archive with the same title. The content of this video is derived from visuals created to accompany a live performance which formed part of a half hour program featured at the Sheffield Poetry Festival and Off the Shelf Literary Festival 2011. The original installation sought to explore abjection specifically in relation to the food industry. Through the collaborative process this work became more concerned with a the creation of a sense of unseen character and place and the migration of humankind from rural to urban setting. This too offers a commentary on the industrial process. The use of visual effects in this video is an experimental approach to exploring the possibilities of presenting a subjective point of view in the absence of an on-screen subject or character. This possibility is further explored in other videos belonging to this series of works.
