Abstract
Ever received a gift you don't like but feel you should keep? Share your stories with the Campaign for Objects in Purgatory! The Campaign for Objects in Purgatory 'live' exhibition took place at Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery in May 2011. Visitors were invited to contribute their uncherished gifts in the form of drawings, sketches, and written or audio narratives. The exhibition grew as contributions came in from members of the university community and general public. Clothing we could never wear, ornaments that are cheaply made, decorative objects that don’t fit the home interior… the stories of the gifts that we don’t like, but feel compelled to keep, were told with a mix of frustration, bewilderment, love and care. Some of the objects and stories collected can be seen at www.objectsinpurgatory.co.uk.
