Abstract

This paper explores the extraordinary ways in which the eminent auteur directors – Italian Ermanno Olmi, Iranian Abbas Kiarostami and British Ken Loach – negotiate and collaborate with each other in the omnibus film Tickets (2005), which is comprised of three distinctive yet connected segments, notably by the presence of migrating Albanian family. Paying a particular attention to the making of documentary, "Ticketsx3", which reveals how each director has two or three interpreters (from and to Italian, English and Persian, and occasional Albanian and French) to communicate with each other and with the members of the cast, the paper explores the ways in which film reflects the complex realities of modern Europe by portraying a series of 'sonic' encounters on a train journey that invoke and inspire the passengers to remember, realize and react.
