Abstract

This article examines the development of the biological passport as a method of combating doping in sport through and analysis of the case involving speedskater Claudia Pechstein as it went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and then on to the Swiss Federal tribunal. The article also rasies questions as to whether the development of the passport may lead to a fundamental shift in the approach to fighting the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport.
