The technical and visual opportunities afforded by the integral casting process provided the creative stimulus to reconsider a functional, religious object where the conflict between the visual metaphor and usability become more accentuated. Extending previous research enquiries that use ecclesiastical objects to challenge pre-conceptions this artefact created a platform for provocation and narrative commentary through recognised iconography providing multiple layers of interpretation. This object won the National Metalwork award in 2010 and was acquired by Museums Sheffield.
