Abstract: | '53.398322, -1.776431' is a video piece produced as part of a larger work entitled 'Beyond The Trees' (see other deposits). 'Beyond The Trees' is a response to the Planet Neptune created by Andrew Robinson for SOLAR, a collaborative arts and technology project, which maps the solar system across the city of Sheffield through a series of specially commissioned artworks and a related walking app. Six artists were commissioned to produce new artworks in response to the eight planets of our solar system each of which they assigned a location at a distance from the center of Sheffield representing the relative orbits of the planets. The project was an extension of the research work of members of the 'Media Arts Research Walking Group' at Sheffield Hallam University which provides a collaborative space for the investigation of cross practice creative production linked to a range of walking practices. Distant, giant, methane blue Neptune is characterised by atmospheric ices, 1,300mph winds & violent weather. The site chosen by Andrew Robinson for Neptune; Rowlee Bridge, lies close to the A57 Snake Pass on the outermost edge of woodlands surrounding the Ashop River above Ladybower reservoir. 'Beyond The Trees' presents still images captured on the journey to and from the site with video footage and audio from beneath Rowlee Bridge. SOLAR was a commission for the CATALYST Festival of Creativity, Sheffield supported by the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. The SOLAR app will be launched in the Peace Gardens, Sheffield on the 9th March 2017 and an exhibition of the films and artworks will be exhibited at the SIA Gallery, Sheffield Hallam University from 14th March - 17th April 2017. |
