Abstract

Possessions Unlimited Julia is a designer, maker and teacher who is fascinated by how we live with objects in our homes. She will talk about how she explores this through her work and teaching, and in particular about her current project, 'Campaign for Objects in Purgatory'. This project celebrates uncherished gifts, and peeks into the dusty corners of our homes to find out how and where we keep them. Uncherished gifts offer rich potential for exploration, because they often embody a conflict in value: as much as we would like to rid ourselves of them, we feel compelled to keep them! An Objects in Purgatory workshop will run alongside Sperkstret, and conference delegates will be able to donate or loan their own Object in Purgatory, and share their stories.
