Abstract

This book chapter explores autism as defined by people diagnosed with the condition and focuses specifically on: sensory and information processing difficulties and anxiety. An exploration of the concepts of: civil rights; inclusion are independence are discussed in relation to the lived experiences of people on the autism spectrum. The book develops a practical way to support people with autism live a fully inclusive and independent lifestyle with the support of a communication profile which highlights potential barriers and enablers in the support environment.
