Abstract: | 'Tier-Perspektiven (Animal Perspectives)' was an exhibition at Georg-Kolbe-Museum in Berlin, from 26/4/09. Artists: Christian Boltanski, Chloë Brown, Wim Delvoye, Thomas Grünfeld, Edwina Ashton, Catherine Bell, Hugo Fortes, Anselmo Fox, Else Gabriel, Susanne Lorenz, Katharina Moessinger, Benny Nero, Mariel Poppe, Barbel Rothhaar, Ina Sangenstedt, Deborah Sengl and Susanne Stake. Curators: Dr. Jessica Ullrich and Friedrich Weltzien, Universität der Künste, Berlin. Tier-Perspektiven explored the field of Animal/Human Studies through contemporary art. This exhibition ran concurrently with the sister exhibition and film screening Tier-Werden, Mensch-Werden (Becoming Animal, Becoming Human) at Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst (NGBK), Berlin. Both exhibitions and the film screening were curated by Dr. Jessica Ullrich and Friedrich Weltzien of the Universität der Künste, Berlin. These events brought together artists who have chosen to focus on the processes of destruction and creation of animal and human identity and thus open up new ways of looking at both. These two exhibitions plus the film screening act as an extensive survey of the key figures in contemporary art working in this field. The accompanying symposia Animalische Identitäten (at NGBK) and Das Tier im Blick (at Georg-Kolbe-Museum) held on May 9th-10th 2009 further extended and developed the debate of those artists and researchers involved in Animal /Human Studies. Chloë Brown showed 'This Moment Here' in this exhibition. |
