Abstract

Over recent years, there has been a surge of interest in the use of first‐row transition metals in catalysis as researchers not only attempt to develop new procedures to expand the synthetic chemistry toolbox but also to replace more expensive second‐ and third‐row metals in already known reactions. In this context, cobalt has attracted significant attention, and in this chapter, we present a selection of reported examples of the use of cobalt in synthesis protocols to highlight its potential in modern cross‐coupling and direct/indirect C–H functionalization chemistry.
