Abstract: | During her first pregnancy, Susannah Gent took daily images of her expanding form with the intention of making a film work. Nearly 8 years after this work was started ‘Pregnany Pussy Mash Up’ asks the question; ‘why is it so difficult to make work about pregnancy and parenthood?’ This short work takes a retrospective look at a period of rapid change in terms of physicality, lifestyle, artistic practise and fundamental psychology. As well as rearing children, Susannah switched practise from film to fine art taxidermy, an activity which sat strangely with early parenting. This is a playful snap shot of that era but also forms part of a more serious investigation into cultural attitude, parenting and artistic practise. |
